I wanted to see weather forecast for Milano, and I though, using google I`ll be able to find some weather forecasting homepage... But google did it quicker and gave me forecast directly.

Wanna try? Write in the google search textbox weather city name and you`ll get direct forecast for chosen city. Nice, isn`t it?

Preparing to heading west..

My professor took part in EU science project, in France and he`s asking me to go with him. It is quite ok for me right now, because in that way I`ll get some money. The first thing is I have to save as much as i can. So the possibilities are Ryanair, EasyJet, rideshare, hitchhiking. I`ll have one extra bag, so hitchhiking seems difficult, but still possible.

1)I found cheap Ryanair ticket to Milano. Got it for 38.60 Eur

2)I found Eurolines from Milano to Lyon. Got it for 46.50 Eur

3)I found train ticket from Lyon to Clermont-Ferrand. Got it for 30.20 Eur

Total cost in one direction - 115.30 Eur

This is cheaper and much more fun than flying from Riga to Paris by airBaltic and paying ~180 Euros, and more 75 euros for train from Paris to Clermont-Ferrand...

But now i`ve dillemma about how to come back... have to think about it heavily, and get one important view.

hibernating vs heavy processor load

Windows 7 bug: This night I didnt turned off the computer because of video rendering hoping that it will not shutdown while processing this video.
Waking up this morning i found my computer turned off. Firstly i thought it`s becouse of overheating (yesterday i changed lubricant between heat sinks and processor), but.. windows 7 was gone in hibernate mode by itself, ignoring video rendering. Firstly it was sooo slow.. Maybe to get working all things in virtual memory. But in 5 minutes all went fine.
So the question - is it good, that going to hibernate mode, OS is ignoring background processes, which has heavy processor load.

Dell Latitude d800 and Inspiron 8600

It is so simple to repair these kinda notebooks. All parts are like plug`n`play. And so easy and simple changing them. Even replacing the motherboard seems so simple.

But there`s one bad thing - screws are in different length. And that makes a problem remembering in which part should I use one or another screw length.

next level? fixing notebooks... hahah!

it`s very usual for my ph.d. professor to do nothing till the few days to deadline. And then he could work all day and night long. and so i`m involved somehow in his works, it reflects to me too. tonight i had to be in lab till ~1 am... again... it really sucks :D It`s better not to tell him the correct deadlines...

Clean system (triple bootable) - two windows xp`s and windows 7.

Both xp`s are for

1. live performance;
2. as workstation.

but windows 7 - for phun.

i was reinstalling both xp`s after setting windows 7, so no surprises that actions like these overwrites master boot sector, and so the windows 7 is not able to boot up.

found nice tool - EasyBCD which helped me to fix that MBR sector.

hard drive is 320Gb size, each system are on seperate partition...

i hate that windows 7 changes drive letters and names.. but for now the drive is splitted in 4 partitions. two for xp`s, one for win7 and all systems has access to another one, where`re all my data.

so if i`d want to work in ableton live, in workstation system i can make what i need, and when i have to play live, i can just load the cleanest live performance system and load the appropriate file.

The traffic is so low and the highway is quite new, so there are no parking lots, petrol stations and these places where cars have to pay for highways...

And exits are stupid.

Will you believe me that I hitchhiked an airplane?

So this is it!

Tomorrow afternoon my family will take me to Suwalki. It`s 5 and half hours driving from Riga and about 380 km through Bauska, Panevezis, passing Kaunas, Marijampole.

The train from Suwalki to Katowice costs around 21 USD. It`s about 640 km and 10 hours going by train. Polish train timetable here. The train leaves at 20:48 local time (GMT +1) So i have to calculate exact time and time reserves. And here it is, the most difficult and popular travel question. Do I have add 1 hour if i`m heading from west to east, or subtract it. In this case I`ll try to think it in Polish time zone. In Poland - 20:00, in Latvia - 21:00. I have the train in 21:48 Latvian time, so i have one more hour and I could leave Latvia at around 15:30

From Katowice (early saturday morning) I`ll heading to south-west, to Brno through Ostrava, then to northwest, to Praha. I`m not sure which way should be better going to Praha, but it seems like motorway or highway, so I`ll use petrol station.  Google maps said that i should be there in 5-6 hours.

Hope to be in Praha in the mid of saturday. I should spend night there... And the next is my goal - Regensburg. About 3 hours, 250 km from Praha.

Meet me in the sunday afternoon somewhere in Regensburg (?)

The road is calling me.

After week i will leave home for another week.

I`m going to pretend a scientist here. "Modelling of RGB colour contribution to visual acuity in conditions of fog evoked decrease of luminance and contrast" is that headline. But this isn`t a story i want to express.

But the way, how I`m going to get to the conference is hitchhiking.

Prayer repetitions

I always are wondering why catholics are repeating some prayers like Hail Mary and others. And some days ago i remember Latin quatation "Repetitio est mater studiorum" which in English means "Repeating is the mother of knowledge". I think this is historical priority thinking about given question/problem. Another thought -  repeating leads to the meditation. But does meditation is connected to knowledge?

Open question remains.

arpeggiator and 8bit

Usually in good synths has builtin arpeggiator and there`s no need for seperate VST plugin for that, but if synth is as asketic as possible, then sometimes this tip could be useful.

One cool way, how to get nintendocore 8 bit sound through VST is using midi arpeggiator VST before VSTi synth. 

Here all midi input notes are coming to arpimedes and this sequences played notes one after another and pass to chip32 synth.

If arpeggiator speed is very fast and plugin itself is brand with correct timing, loop and doesn`t change sound or loose midi messages, then effect is guaranteed.

Solution how to find latitude and longitude using google maps is here, if you haven`t google earth ->

Homepage is using not very complicated OOP based javascript to find parameters, centering the map as the pointer is in the true center thus giving the true coordinats of pointer, and calculates from decimal (default in google maps) to degrees.
